Why Fuel Monitoring is an Emergency Device in Automobile and Transport Systems?

· Technology

Gas and liquid fuels are costlier products in any country. In the pandemic situation, the transport system got stuck due to lockdown and they suffered a huge loss. So, it is very necessary to reduce the fuel consumption cost. Also, the deficiency in the availability of fuels may adversely affect automobile and transport systems in the future. To avoid such a scenario, fuel management systems have been introduced for wastage and theft of fuels. Monitoring of fuel comes under the fuel management system.

Fuel management is introduced to monitor and control the consumption and usage of fuels in transport systems including rail, road, water, and air service. It is used for fleet vehicles including railway and aircraft. Many technologies have been introduced to monitor the storage and dispense of fuel. Fuel monitoring is one of the fuel management systems. Around 30-35% of the operating cost of a fleet goes for fuel consumption. So, many monitoring systems have been introduced to control fuel consumption.

Types of Monitoring devices

Here are some of the fuel control devices which is widely used in fleet vehicles.

Monitoring without GPS – many companies are manufacturing monitoring units without the usage of the advanced technology of GPS. Even though they are back on the advanced technology, still they use some control techniques to save fuel consumption.

GPS monitoring without fuel sensors - The most commonly used solution for monitoring is GPS. It provides data on the movement of the vehicle and speed. Milage can be calculated accurately with data given GPS system.

Monitoring by fuel sensors – CAN (Controlled Area Network) is a sensor that enables interaction between vehicles onboard systems and other sensors.

Flow meter – it is a sensor installed on the fuel pipes. It tracks how much fuel gone into engines and how much it consumed within a span of time.

Fuel level sensors – this device fits inside the tank of the vehicle to measure the changes in fuel level. The device monitor displays the fuel level changes.

It has several usages. The Fuel Monitoring system can avoid fuel theft by installing a tracking device in your vehicle. You will get an instant alert when the drainage happens in your fuel tank. Also, it is used to detect the wastage of fuel by idling or adverse driving practices. This monitoring system can fit in the fuel tank of any vehicle.
