The introduction of PG courses in India has opened a window to a wide range of programs in the field of Science, Engineering, and Humanities among others. A PG course is offered by all those universities who are affiliated by AICTE. The best part of PG courses is that they are not bound to follow the university guidelines and can make alterations in the course as and when required.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management is a postgraduate qualification that is awarded after a university degree. Introduced in India in the year of 2005, a post-graduate diploma course is usually of a year distributed into three and/or four semesters.

Difference between PGDM and MBA

However, when it comes to the management courses it is to mention that there is a difference between PGDM and MBA. Many confuse them to be the same course, but the fact is that these two have some minor but debatable differences. To clear the doubts in this regards beneath are the main differences between these two courses:

  • Although the curriculum of these two degrees is fickly similar, differences exist between these two. A student pursuing a MBA course in India will be getting an exposure to learn and understand the curriculum with more of the theoretical aspects in them. On the contrary, a student pursuing a PG course in India will be getting an opportunity to gain knowledge regarding the building soft-skills and the course or program will be more industry-oriented.
     
  •  An MBA institute is bound to follow a fixed curriculum designed according to the university guidelines. But an institute offering PGDB is not bound to follow any pre-designed curriculum from any university. The institute is free to change and alter the course making the student groomed for a senior level position in a company.
Benefits of opting for a PGDM over an MBA

There are a plethora of reasons to give that will prove that PGDM is anytime a better choice for every student who wishes to pursue higher studies. Few of these benefits of obtaining PGDM are as beneath:

  1.   PGDM courses give real-time business exposure to the students through rigorous classrooms and sessions and offer better placement which is both attractive and autonomous in nature.
     
  2.   PG courses in India are designed on an industry-oriented structure which not only provides the required bookish MBA knowledge but is altered according to the latest developments in the industry.
     
  3.  PGDM gives the students a wider range of areas of specialization. For example, one aspires to attain specialization in Human Resource, then with a PGDM, the student gets a chance to opt for minor/major subjects like Marketing, Finance/IT programming, giving a broader exposure over other candidates.

Hence, choosing a PGDM course always proves more beneficial to the students as per their future references.
