Different Types of Spherical Ball Bearing and Their Applications

Spherical Ball Bearing

A different bearing from other bearing spherical bearing act as coolant and they are lubricated with oil. These bearings are used for high speeds as well as average speeds and they are great in both. The tolerance level of these bearings is much higher because of which they can suited for high level applications. Some of the many types of spherical bearings are listed as under:

1. Non locating bearings

In this type of spherical ball bearings, one can find an angle which is located outside the bearings, and they help in the continual movement of the shaft of bearings. Non locating bearings have the highest speed and a high load capacity. Because of the stiffness present in it, non-locating bearings can move quite fast and work the best.

2. One direction bearing

In these types of bearings, there are both outer and inner rings. But, in this type, there is a single ring which is separable, and that ring moves only in one direction. Because of which the name is a one direction bearing. The guidance of the roller is a race of double flanged. The other characteristics are like non-locating bearings. But the one difference is that the speed of one direction bearings is lower, and they can perform with a limiting speed.

3. Full complement

There are two types of rings in full complement which are non-locating, and the advantage of these spherical bearings are that they have a capacity filled with high load but at the same time they have quite low speed. Because of the velocity, which is caused due to the rubbing of rollers, full complements have low speed. They move in oscillatory movements.

4. Double row

Double row bearings are an alignment between two shafts, and they are in between high and low loads. These bearings move at moderate speeds and at the same time, they are totally non locating. They have double roller retainers.

When you have high speed spherical ball bearing, it also has certain disadvantages. The high speed can lead to bearing failures in longer run. Combat skidding is necessary where you can place rings opposite to each other in a diametric way. Pre hollowed rollers is also another technique to keep rollers move at a high speed.

Journal bearing is another type of spherical ball bearing which consist of two non-locating bearings. The shaft should be hard so that the bearings can get a good grip on the ground.
